Right: June and most of July was unusually dry this past year, so we had to feed a lot of baled hay that we had planned to keep for the winter.  The grass was so short in the fall, that Jim  "green chopped" grass to feed to the beef.

Below: Jim is supplementing the calves diet (mother's milk and pasture) with oats. Notice the special gate that the calves can go through but the mother cows can not.
Below: Last summer, one of the cows did not have enough milk for her calf.  Each day Jim fed the calf some milk replacer (powdered milk specially formulated for calves), to supplement the mother's milk.
